2023 Qld State School Calendar
From the Desk of the Principal
Welcome to another fortnight here at Montville State School. We have an extremely busy end to the term coming up with Montville markets, NAPLAN, Bike Club, P&C AGM, Camp and day excursion, Small Schools Volleyball,as well as parent teacher interviews all in the next 3 weeks!
This fortnight we have been focussing on the expectation of Care For Others - Be Kind. I am thrilled to report that in almost all circumstances the students are extremely kind to each other and definitely deserve recognition of this amazing behaviour. Incidents do happen from time to time between students and we encourage them to "Use the Montville 5" (see diagram below) if they are having an issue with another student. I am very proud of the way the students use this strategy to avoid conflict.
This Tuesday we will be holding our first Bike Club for 2023 where students are encouraged to bring their bike and helmet to school and we layout a course on the oval for bigger bikes and a course in the undercover area for smaller bikes with training wheels. It is a lot of fun and all students are invited to participate. I will open the gates down on the oval and students are asked to place their bikes near the bike racks in the morning and collect them afterschool in the afternoon. If you have any questions please speak to your child’s teacher.
I am very keen to get feedback from parents as to areas of the school you are happy with and areas that require improvement. Could all parents please take 2 minutes to complete a quick survey. Just click on the link to get started. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/6HSMPVP
Finally I would like to ask for all parents to consider joining our P&C (Parents and Citizens Committee). An effective school P&C is the only way that a small school like ours can ensure that our students have access to opportunities that contribute to a positive and engaging school where all families feel like they belong.
This Wednesday at 3pm we will be holding our P&C AGM and need to have a committee consisting of a President, Vice- President, Secretary and Treasurer. I want to sincerely thank the P&C members and executive from last year and acknowledge all of the wonderful work achieved (including obtaining a $100,000 grant for our new playground!!) If you are even remotely interested in possibly taking up a position, I would love for you to get in touch either by phone 54521333 or email amont14@eq.edu.au.
I am looking forward to a positive and productive end to Term 1 and want to thank everyone for their support.
Regards,
Adam

Important Information
Late arrivals /Early Departures
It is a Education Queensland requirement that any student arriving late to school or leaving early is signed in or out through the office. If your child is getting to class after 9am they must sign in through the office. If they are leaving before the bell at 2.45pm they must be signed out through the office. Teachers cannot sign students in or out.
If students are being collected early they must be signed out by a person listed as an emergency contact on their school profile unless the school has been notified in writing of a casual person who may be picking them up. This can be by email or text.
By prior arrangement students can be waiting in the office to be collected. Students are not permitted to wait at the butterfly to be collected early, we have a duty of care to primary school students to make sure they are collected by an authorised person.
If you have an appointment to get to please allow enough time to attend the office and sign students out.
We will do our best to make the process as quick as possible.
Thank you for your support with this very important safety policy.
Inclusion news
Please see the attachment from Sandi Smith about a fabulous presentation designed to help students with diverse needs transition smoothly to high school
Book Club
Welcome back to school 2023,
Hi my name is Ms Kelly and I am the Co-Ordinator of MSS Scholastic Book Club.
Book Club has 2 Issues a term, 8 per year.
Book Club also benefits our school—for every Book Club order placed, Scholastic gives back 20% of the order spend to schools to spend on valuable educational resources via its Scholastic Rewards program
The catalogue will be given to your child by their teacher. The due date for the orders can be found on a poster outside of your child’s classroom, on the notice board underneath A block, in the library and office and in the Newsletter.
This year we will be moving away from taking cash payments at the office.
All orders can be placed via LOOP, it is the easiest way to order and pay for BookClub.
Happy reading
BOOK CLUB DUE 16 Mar 2023
CAN YOU HELP?
Our P&C really need volunteers to help with the markets, please see below
Medication for Maranatha Camp
Students that require medication at camp will need to complete forms prior to camp. If forms or medication is supplied to the school outside of the guidelines parents will be rquired to attend camp and administer the medication.
Prep Update
We have been lucky enough to be involved in bowling as part of our PMP. We love the obstacle course. Bowling is so cool. We have children down the side to help push the ball along. We have learnt that there is also a special way to set up the bowling pins. Thank you Miss Sharee for booking the bowling sets for us. We love the obstacle course.
We participated in cleaning up the school on Friday afternoon. We are going to try and keep the school clean.

Year 1 Update
The year 1 students have been exploring positional language and directing their classmates through a range of obstacle courses and using the Bee Bots during our maths lessons. Also, we have been collecting data on what is the most and least popular fruit within out class lunch boxes, fruit break has now turned into a short maths lesson.
The students have enjoyed using the ‘Bump It Up Wall’ checklists to assess their work and using feedback from teachers to improve their writing and understanding.
GREAT JOB year 1’s.
This week we have been looking at all the ways we can be kind and show kindness to others- these kids are the kindest kids I know. We have a Kindness Letterbox in the classroom for anyone to put a note or drawing to share with the class. We need a bigger fridge to display all the wonderful kind messages.
So…Not long until the holidays, lets keep up the energy for three more weeks.

Year 2 Update
Miss Baker has been on leave and at this stage will be on leave until 16/03/2023. Please welcome Mrs Cristi Lancaster to the classroom
Over the past week, Year 2 students have shown such kindness by welcoming Mrs Lancaster into their classroom whilst Miss Baker is away. Students have demonstrated cooperation and teamwork in all of their lessons and been so helpful in showing her how their classroom works on a day-to-day basis. We have been working hard on our narrative writing task to come up with an awesome orientation, complication and resolution to our imaginary story. We are also enjoying the brief opportunities Mrs Lancaster gives us to relax and calm our bodies and mind through Salamander Yoga.

Year 3/4 Update
Dr Sarah Pye class visit.
The 3-4 students were very fortunate to have Author and Environmentalist Dr Sarah Pye visit our classroom last Tuesday.
The students were shown an interesting slide show. The slide show included Dr Pye’s journey to Borneo and featured some of the many endangered animals she encountered and the vey important Dr Wong, who is the wildlife warrior in her books.
The students took part in a play that was actually a story from one of Dr Pye’s books. This was a favourite; each student thoroughly enjoyed this activity.
Thank you for visiting us Dr Sarah Pye it was both informative and fun!

The 5/6 class has been very busy this fortnight finishing off our English and Maths assessments. We have also been organising morning sports, cooking in the kitchen and cleaning up around the school.
We are all SUPER EXCITED about our upcoming camp and have been looking at all the challenging activities we will be doing.
