2023 Qld State School Calendar
Enrolments for 2024
Enrolments are now open for 2024!!
Please see the school website or, call into our administration office for enrolment packs.
From the Desk of the Principal
Welcome to another fortnight here at Montville State School. This fortnight our students are focussing on the behaviour expectation of "RESPECT AND VALUE THE DIFFERENCE IN OTHERS" and I am really excited to remind the school community that we are having a visit from Seamus Evans (https://seamusevans.com, Hit 91.9 radio presenter) to share his insights and experiences as a person
who is neurodiverse.
There will be sessions for the students during the school day and also a workshop for staff, parents and community members from 4:30pm. There will be light refreshments provided and everyone is welcome to attend.
Bike Club
On Tuesday we will be holding our famous Bike Club on the oval. Students are to bring their bike and helmet to the bike racks on the oval before school and they are to be collected after school.
Student Code of Conduct Review
We currently have a matrix of behaviour expectations that our student are asked to follow. This year we are reviewing our Student Code of Conduct and have created a quick parent survey to gather parents' opinions . Please click on the link to complete the quick 2 minute survey, https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/66R7VK8
This week is National Volunteers Week. Here at Montville we have the most amazing volunteers who are essential to our school. I want to say a huge thank you to all the volunteers from the staff and students of Montville SS and encourage anyone who is thinking of offering their time to please get in touch with us.
Regards
Adam

Prep Vision Screening will take place on Wednesday 31/05/2023 during school hours. Parents were sent an email with the registration details and paper copies of the notes have been handed out today. A copy of the consent form is below. Please register your child for this free and valuable service.
Year 1 Update
The year 1 students have been reading books and writing character descriptions of the main character in English, great work year 1’s. During maths we have been skip counting and working with time using analogue and digital time.
Last Friday we had a very busy day, thank you to the families who were able to help in the kitchen cooking curry, pizza, brownies and 100 mini muffins for the Mother’s Day afternoon. We had a blast sharing a yummy lunch and chocolate brownies.
The Prep/year1 Mother’s Day Pamper Afternoon was a massive hit! Thank you to all the mums, nans and special friends who attended to be pampered and made feel very special. There were many laughs and some tears but I must say every adult left the room looking amazing and relaxed. We hope everyone had a happy Mother’s Day.

Year 2 Update
The year two class have been continuing on with their number counting patterns using concrete materials to prove to Miss Baker and Mrs Lancaster that they can in fact count both forwards and backwards in 2’s, 3’s, 5’s, 10’s. They built and wrote down their explanations and reasoning.
A huge thank you to Mrs Lancaster who will continue to be working in the year two classroom with us all for a while. Mrs Lancaster has been such an amazing addition to year two as well as all of MSS

Year 3/4 Update
Every Monday afternoon we have the pleasure to visit the school library and see the wonderful Mrs Kelly. She assists the students to borrow books that are appropriate for each student’s ability and interest. Thanks Mrs Kelly!
I am very pleased to report that we have a very, very high percentage of students borrowing each week and the students are always keen to share their books with me. The new Chapter books are always a popular choice.
Congratulations 34 and our families for promoting and taking part each week in a very valuable experience. Keep up the good work!

Year 5/6 Update
The 5/6 class enjoyed their time outdoors today. We spent the morning designing the playground making sure we incorporated our amazing trees and existing outdoor spaces.
We have been hard at work in class drafting our English assessments and completing Maths assessments.
Next week we are having a Canberra Fundraiser and selling sausages and hot chocolate to raise money for our bus transfers to the airport. Only 8 weeks to go!

Late arrivals /Early Departures
Late arrivals /Early Departures
It is a Education Queensland requirement that any student arriving late to school or leaving early is signed in or out through the office. If your child is getting to class after 9am they must sign in through the office. If they are leaving before the bell at 2.45pm they must be signed out through the office. Teachers cannot sign students in or out.
If students are being collected early they must be signed out by a person listed as an emergency contact on their school profile unless the school has been notified in writing of a casual person who may be picking them up. This can be by email or text.
By prior arrangement students can be waiting in the office to be collected. Students are not permitted to wait at the butterfly to be collected early, we have a duty of care to primary school students to make sure they are collected by an authorised person.
If you have an appointment to get to please allow enough time to attend the office and sign students out.
We will do our best to make the process as quick as possible.
Thank you for your support with this very important safety policy.

Markets
Market BBQ & Finder’s Keepers Stalls
The weekend saw a near on record number of stall holders including some fabulous new venders. Kaalund Yarns and Flower Farm were present with their beautiful yarns and flower bouquets and a vibrant selection of seedlings on offer by Earth Song Enterprises.
The Finders Keepers stall again captured the attention and imagination of the younger crowd and Charles, Jack, Nakota and Cohen charmed the punters with their smiles and enterprising ways. I understand they enjoyed the day and were very content with their takings. And we all appreciated the efforts of Angie, Kirsten, Craig, Mel and Keersten to support and supervise our little entrepreneurs. It really does add to the sense of community and “vibe” of the markets.
As always, many helping hands make for great burgers - sincere thanks to Maitreyi, Donna, Amy, Betty, Lalila, Jaqui, Matylda, DJ and Gareth.
The MVA would like to invite any students 8+ who might like to help serve pancakes. It is great experience and they get a reference for service.
Also, helpers in the pancake kitchen and for setup are always welcome - and in an effort to entice, a complimentary pancake the reward. Please email montvillemarket.mva@gmail.com to for more information.
The next market is the 10th June - we’d love you to join us and you can sign up at the link below.

SCC Emergency Expo
Action stations: The expo that could save your life
Want to watch a helicopter water bombing?
Or a swift water rescue team race into action?
How about marvelling at a painstaking vertical rescue?
Sunshine Coast Council’s free Emergency Expo, which aims to help educate, protect and inspire our community, will return on Sunday, May 21, from 10am to 2pm.
And this year it’s bigger and better than ever with the free Expo to be held at Lake Kawana, in front of the Sunshine Coast Stadium.
Along with thrilling demonstrations, there’ll be stalls hosted by the emergency services and Sunshine Coast Council.
There are plenty of things to do for the whole family, which also includes plenty of food and drink options.
Those who visit them all can win some fantastic prizes. All you have to do is collect stamps at each exhibit to go into the draw.
The best thing you can do for your family is prepare, so when you’re faced with a disaster or emergency, you know what to do.
This expo is your chance to do that.
Along with Sunshine Coast Council, the event is held in partnership with Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES), Queensland Police Service (QPS Sunshine Coast), Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS), UnityWater, Energex, State Emergency Service (SES), Surf Life Saving Queensland, Australian Volunteer Coastguard, Marine Safety Queensland, Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), Red Cross Australia and Volunteering Sunshine Coast.
You’ll find more information about the Emergency Services and Disaster Preparedness Expo Here.
