From the Desk of the Principal
Welcome to another fortnight at Montville State School where we Care for Others, Ourselves and the Environment. This fortnight we have been focusing on the expoectation of respecting the differences in others. I am very proud of the students here at Montville and the way that they ensure that all of their friends are included in and out of the classroom. Last week we had Seamus Evans come and talk to all students about "turning our flaws into a superpower". I want to thank all of the community members who came along to the workshop last Tuesday evening and to the families that made a financial contribution to allow Seamus' visit to happen.
This Friday our Concert Band will be performing at the Maleny Show. I want to thank the members of the concert band and Mr Hill for all of their work getting ready to put on an amazing performance. All of our students have recieved a pass for 'free entry for student under 12 years with an accompanying paying adult' into the show, so if you are thinking of going to the show on Friday, please make sure you go along and support our concert band.
You may have noticed that the timber play structure has now been removed which indicates our playground and outdoor learning area redevelopment has commenced. We were successful in obtaining a grant for the repair of all the aluminum play structures and removal of the timber playground. Currently the comet has been removed for repair and we are waiting on the parts to be replaced on the other pieces of equipment. Hopefully this work will be completed in the near future. We currently have some design options displayed around the school for student/parent feedback and following the consultation, will be seeking quotes in the range of $110 000 for playgrounds that meet the needs/ wishes of the students. We are still awaiting advice regarding SSS grant application worth $540,000 but will not have word until July. I am determined to have this project completed by the end of the 2023 school year and will provide updates as they come to hand.
Finally, I would like to ask for parents' support to ensure their child comes to school in the correct uniform including a school / bottle green hat, a school/ bottle green jumper and black/ bottlegreen tights. I want to stress everyone that I am very happy to assist purchasing any uniform item if cost is an issue.
Thank you all for your ongoing support.
Regards
Adam
Prep Update
Preps had such a great time Outdoors during Outdoors Classroom Day. We made habitats for outside animals such as birds, water dragons, ants, caterpillar and lizards. We also learnt about volcanoes. We made our own volcano erupt. So cool!

Year 1 Update
The Year 1 students have been busy over the past two weeks working hard during learning across all subjects.
Just a friendly reminder, library borrowing is on Thursday afternoon. Students have the chance to return and reborrow home readings and picture books. During this time we share our class visitors adventures ‘The Gruffalo’. This is very exciting, the returning student chooses the next class friend to take The Gruffalo home for the weekend.
With the playground out of action most of the Year 1 students have been making their own fun engaging in nature and lose parts play. Mr Montgomery has been very impressed with the kids imagination and motivation during play.
The puppets are almost finish and ready to deliver to the Maleny Show this week. The students have had a great time exploring materials during the making process.
Thank you
Miss Sheree

Year 2 Update
In the year two classroom we have been focussing on using our Learning Walls, Bump it Up Walls and Information Station to help us improve our English writing. The students have been making a preference of which character they prefer. It’s been so much fun working with the year two class and Miss Baker and Mrs Lancaster bouncing around ideas and having fun while we learn and grow.
We have been logging into Typing Tournament and practising our typing drills and even commencing the speed test. Watch out! Touch typists on the way!
KITCHEN GARDEN and AFTERNOON TEA reminder.
We are on Kitchen Garden this Friday (2nd) morning 8:45-10:45. Come help cook and enjoy the food. We would love to have you there.
Donations for afternoon tea to be dropped into the tuckshop anytime.

Year 3/4 Update
We have been busy!
Over the last two weeks the students have been finishing assessments in Math and making preparations for their English spoken assessment. They were very fortunate to share a ‘Show or Tell’ to prepare them for their upcoming spoken presentations. We don’t usually have time for this, so we had some very excited students, and we began our presentations today. Thank you to everyone for your support and enthusiasm around preparing the students, it is greatly appreciated. I also look forward to listening to the Grade 4 cereal promotions.
We are enjoying soccer skills in PE and cooked up a delicious lunch on Friday.

Year 5/6 Update
This week we visited Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve,
We would like to thank all the volunteers at the reserve for sharing their time and knowledge.
Some students saw Pademelons foraging around the reserve and lots of other animals in their habitats. It was great to link the science and design tech units we are studying at the moment with first hand observations.

Late arrivals /Early Departures
Late arrivals /Early Departures
It is a Education Queensland requirement that any student arriving late to school or leaving early is signed in or out through the office. If your child is getting to class after 9am they must sign in through the office. If they are leaving before the bell at 2.45pm they must be signed out through the office. Teachers cannot sign students in or out.
If students are being collected early they must be signed out by a person listed as an emergency contact on their school profile unless the school has been notified in writing of a casual person who may be picking them up. This can be by email or text.
By prior arrangement students can be waiting in the office to be collected. Students are not permitted to wait at the butterfly to be collected early, we have a duty of care to primary school students to make sure they are collected by an authorised person.
If you have an appointment to get to please allow enough time to attend the office and sign students out.
We will do our best to make the process as quick as possible.
Thank you for your support with this very important safety policy.
Montville Markets
Montville Markets – Saturday 10th June 7:30am to 12.00 noon @ Montville Village Hall
Does your toy cupboard need a cleanse? Are your kids interested in earning some extra spending money? The ‘Finders Keepers’ stall is a great way to combine the two and we are looking for sellers for this month’s market.
Or do you have a young entrepreneur who has an unrelenting desire to make pom poms, pens, cards, bunches of flowers/herbs, hair accessories, soaps or anything you can think of that would be sellable that they have made themselves? Then the Young Entrepreneurs stall is for you! There is no stall fee, so again all earnings are pocketed by the vendor.
If activism is what lights a fire there is also the opportunity to have a stall where students can promote a cause close to their hearts. In the past students have run stalls dedicated to “Saving the Orangutan”, RSPCA, Australian Conservation Foundation, Save the Reef to name just a few.
There is a dedicated busking slot, 7.30am -8.30am, for our musicians to share their talents with the world.
As always, surplus produce from your garden or home made products from your kitchen are greatly appreciated for sale at our P&C stall. Volunteers for the stall are ALWAYS welcomed with open arms and you can sign up to donate or volunteer here - https://volunteersignup.org/RDYB3
Lastly, to any budding artists out there, come along and pick up a brush and explore portraiture of 'Self or Others' - https://www.facebook.com/montvillemarket
See you at the markets!
