Report cards are being sent home next week. This year we will be making repoort cards accessable through the Qparents app on Tuesday and will be emailing reports out on Thursday. Could I please remind parents to register for the QParents app. This app is a great way to approve excursions, see and pay invoices and receive report cards.
We are have really busy final week with a lot of events happening across the school. On Monday we are holding our Athletics carnival. All students are involved and will be required wear their hat, shoes and house coloured shirt. A timetable will be emailed out to parents .
On Tuesday we will be holding our assembly that will commence at 1:50pm. There will be the usual award presentations and notices as well as performances from our choir and guitar students. Everyone is encouraged to come along.
On Thursday we are going to have our very first "Feed the soil day" where our students are going to work with Sophie our garden educator to learn about how to put nutrients back into the soil in a sustainable way. Students will bring an old shirt/ jumper to wear. We need some parents to come along to assist us on the day so, if you are available please let us know.
Finally we finish the week and term of with our Under 8's Day which will run from 9am-10:45am. The year 6 students will be assisting the teachers to run heaps of activities for all of our students in P-3. It also will be a free dress day for everyone that comes to school.
As you can see there is a lot happening! This would not be possible with out the hard work of the staff and volunteers and I would like to sincerly thank them for all of their hard work this term.
Regards
Adam

Student Welfare
Hi everyone!
My name is Carly and I’m the new Student Welfare Worker at Montville State School. I’m so excited to get to know you all and help in any way I can.
I live just down the road in Flaxton with my husband and our two year old son. We moved to the area in 2020 and I am loving getting to know this beautiful community. I hold a Master of Counselling and have experience counselling grown-ups, running resilience programs, and working with young people experiencing anxiety.
My role here is to enhance the wellbeing of our students. This might look like one-on-one counselling, in class sessions about set topics (ie friendships, emotional wellbeing, transitioning to high school), or smaller mini workshops about emotional regulation, coping techniques etc. It will also include some student led activities like Fun Club, Discos, and Building Club.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me with ideas, suggestions, and feedback. I’m at Montville State School on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and you can also catch me at playgroup on Friday mornings. My email is celli355@eq.edu.au so please reach out in any way you are comfortable with.
I look forward working with you,
Carly
Montville State School Kitchen Garden
June 2023
Hi I am Sophie, the new Garden Teacher! I will be in the Kitchen Garden with us on Thursdays. Feel free to drop in and say hello.
Thursday, 1 June 2023
I spent the day getting to know Staff and the Garden. I drew a map of what was currently growing and had a bit of a think about what else we could grow. Then I cleaned out the Garden Shed and found heaps of cool stuff like lots of gloves and hand tools for us to plant veggies with! We also got a big load of mulch delivered for free from a local arborist. Some lucky students helped Mr Pete put some mulch outside the classrooms. Looks great! Thanks for your help
Thursday, 8 June 2023
Today we weeded one of the raised beds and put some of your magical compost in to feed the plants and soil. Thank you so much for all your scraps! The little wormies are very happy! Then we put a big blanket of straw mulch to keep the soil nice and moist. This will also break down over time to feed the soil as well as protect the plants from any big changes of temperature. And it looks nice!
Nakota and Ava helped me plant some beautiful, healthy baby seedlings: thyme, climbing beans, lettuce, Asian greens, kale, rainbow chard…just to name a few! These seedlings came from the lovely Karen and Owen from Earthsong. Karen and Owen have kindly donated lots of baby plants for us, a big thank you!
We planted some Surinam spinach which should grow really easily here, tastes great in stir fry and has really cute little pinky purple flowers. We also planted some galangal to Miss Agarta’s Ginger and Tumeric bed.
We put up some signs so we can find our new plants – keep a look out for anything new! Maybe give them a little water too if they look thirsty.
We turned the big compost. It was looking a bit dry so I added some “green” materials to the “browns” to make the compost kick-start in this cool weather.
We have also ordered some seeds so we can try to grow some of our own baby plants and lots of cow poo which will make me and the compost very happy!
Happy growing!
Next Thursday June 22nd we are hosting a Feed the Soil Day please join us for this fabulous initiative hosted by Sophie. See brochure below.

Year 2 Update
It's that time of the term when we learn to show what we know and the Year 2's have been doing this brilliantly. Over the last few weeks, we've been putting our minds to work, pencils to paper and fingers to keyboards to complete our final assessment tasks. We've enjoyed opportunities to show our knowledge in a variety of ways, including the use of iPads, laptops, writing and cooperative learning activities. Well done Year 2, you have earned a well-deserved holiday!

Year 3/4 Update
We have been busy over the last two weeks finalising our assessment pieces for English. The grade 4 students have designed some very interesting cereal boxes and presented their cereal box promotion. The grade 3 students have loved presenting their spoken procedures. Drama is definitely a favourite activity in our classroom. Well done to all of our presenters.

The 5/6s have had a great finish to the term. They have been hard at work finishing assessments, doing STEM challenges and creative writing.
We are at Small Schools Soccer today and already I have seen great sportsmanship and enthusiasm.
Thanks for another wonderful term 5/6s.

Library
Thank you so much to Jenna Brown and Jessica Sialepis for their donations of books to the library!
The generosity of our families doesn't go unnoticed, we are so grateful for the support we receive from our families.
Reading transports us to worlds we would never see, introduces us to people we would never meet, and instills emotions we might never otherwise feel. It also provides an array of health benefits. Here are six scientific reasons you should be picking up more books.
- Reading reduces stress
- Reading(especially books ) may add years to your life
- Reading improves your language skills and knowledge of the world
- Reading enhances empathy
- Reading creates and boosts creativity and flexibility
- Reading can help you transform as a person

Unexplained Absence Notes
This week unexplained absence notes went home with students.
If you receive one please complete with a reason for the absence, sign and return to the office.
These notes provide parents an opportunity to update any missed absences but they can also highlight issues in the school absence recording system that may need to be addressed. If you believe you have already notified the school of the absence please make a note of that on the form and return to the office so it can be investigated.
Late arrivals /Early Departures
Late arrivals /Early Departures
It is a Education Queensland requirement that any student arriving late to school or leaving early is signed in or out through the office. If your child is getting to class after 9am they must sign in through the office. If they are leaving before the bell at 2.45pm they must be signed out through the office. Teachers cannot sign students in or out.
If students are being collected early they must be signed out by a person listed as an emergency contact on their school profile unless the school has been notified in writing of a casual person who may be picking them up. This can be by email or text.
By prior arrangement students can be waiting in the office to be collected. Students are not permitted to wait at the butterfly to be collected early, we have a duty of care to primary school students to make sure they are collected by an authorised person.
If you have an appointment to get to please allow enough time to attend the office and sign students out.
We will do our best to make the process as quick as possible.
Thank you for your support with this very important safety policy.
Montville Markets
Market Update
Yes, we do a good job at raise funds, but it is those who colour my morning each market who make it truly special.
You might know know Ray. He and his wife, Lucy, have frequented the stall every month since we restarted in June 2022. They take the time to linger, chat and they recognize the importance of assisting the children (and sometimes us) in learning the art of the till and the universally recognised method of counting back change.
Jean is also a regular who this month bought a stash of uncooked sausages for her freezer. She recently lost her driver’s license, as she is “too old” (her words) and so, with limited mobility, has restricted opportunities to shop.
Jacqui, who is a story teller at heart and misses the opportunity now that her children are adults, gave me her details with the hope she can join our Rapid Reader Program.
Eighty-one year old MVA volunteer Eric shared his delight in finding that the “heavy lifting” at Friday night set up had been completed by a handful of MSS Dads.
This weekend I met the lovely Zoe and Max today who volunteered for the 6am grave yard set up shift with smiles on their faces. As they are part of the Grade 2 crowd, the chances of meeting otherwise are slim as my children are slightly older.
Rex and Cohen worked hard to sell their wares at the Finders Keepers Stall, engaging Jo as their ‘Sales and Marketing Manager’ for a fair fee. Collectively they took home over $100 at end of play.
Oliver came to our rescue with 2 x dozen of his own eggs when we were running low.
As a P&C we took $560 on Saturday with half of that as profit. But to me, the profit is in these stories. Thank you to my wonderful volunteers and members of our community for being key characters each month.
With gratitude
Kate
