From the Desk of the Principal
Welcome to Term 3 at Montville State School. I have been thrilled with the way that all of the students have returned to school ready to learn and follow our school rules of Care for Self, Others and The Environment.
We have 2 new staff members join our team this term. Mr Craig Caswell has replaced Mrs Turnbull as our new Prep teacher for the remainder of the year. We also have Mrs Salli Hamilton assisting in the Year 2 class as a teacher aide for the next 4 weeks whilst Miss Baker continues to recover from her knee surgery. I want to warmly welcome Craig and Salli to the Montville State School community.
Over ther holidays, I recieved notification that a $450 000 grant application for our playground and outdoor learning area was successful. In order to recieve this whole amount the school is required to contribute $170 000, the majority of which is made up of the $100 000 Gambling Community Benefit grant and $45 000 of school funds.
We currently have approximately $25 000 left to raise in order to recieve the full amount of the grant . If we are unable to do this then the grant is reduced to $375 000. Whilst this is still a significant amount of money, I am very keen to ensure we raise the funds required to get the full benefit of the grant.
This is a very exciting opportunity to create a fun and engaging area for out students to play and learn in. I am in the process of appointing a project manager to over see the design and construction process and look forward to providing an update of progress soon.
Next week our Year 5 & 6 students are travelling to Canberra to visit all of our National landmarks and spend a day in the snow! We will be keeping families updated through regular Class Dojo posts. I want to thank Miss Emily for all of her work organising this amazing trip and am looking forward to a fun and educational week.
Regards
Adam

Salli Hamilton will be assisting Ellen in the Year 2 classroom for the next 4 weeks to further support Ellen's recovery post surgery on her knee.
Welcome Salli, most of us know Salli as Betty's (yr6) grandma and from cooking sometimes of a Friday. Please say hi if you see Salli around.

Prep Update
The prep class has had a great start to term 3. While the change to a new teacher can be challenging, I am very happy with the way that both the students and parents have welcomed me into the school. We are working hard to establish our routines that will allow all students to engage and pursue success. A strong focus this week has been literacy, though we are all excited to be accessing the garden tomorrow. We are also pleased to be starting our home reading program. Look out for the decodable readers and high frequency words tonight.
Thank you
Craig Caswell

Year 1 Update
Welcome back to Term 3. The year 1's have started the term with energy and enthusiasm. I have loved hearing about everyone's holiday adventures during a yarning circle.
This week we have been reading and retelling cultural Storys, measuring objects using informal units and exploring light and sound in science.
Thank you
Miss Sheree

Year 2 Update
Welcome back to Term 3 everyone!
I’m so excited to introduce the lovely Miss Salli. She is joining the year 2 class for the first 4 weeks of this term as well as joining Miss Mai on Fridays for kitchen garden.
Huge welcome to Salli.
We have gotten straight into our units of work this term, working on our English, Maths, Science, HASS and heaps more.
We have started our spelling and literacy groups too.
If there are any parents/carers that would like to join us on a Wednesday or Thursday morning for a reading group. Please let me know.
Great to see everyone healthy and well after the holiday break.
Ellen Baker.

Year 3/4 Update
Welcome back!
Wow! I can’t believe we are now entering Semester two and one half of the year is now behind us. Firstly, the students have been excited to tell me all about their school break, the movies they saw and the friends they have been having fun with. It seems Elementals was a popular choice. I am so glad everyone has had some time to relax and enjoy the cooler weather and winter sun.
We have started our new units. I am already impressed with everyone’s mature attitude and work ethic, and I am already seeing some great work.
The students enjoyed a very special visitor this week. Miss Emily’s French student Clem. She had so much to share with us about her country and we really did appreciate the yummy Crepe that she provided for us to taste. Many students were asking for the recipe. Archer was particularly impressed with Clem’s knowledge of Soccer or should we say Football?
Looking forward to a great term.

Year 5/6 Update
The 5/6 had a great start to term. We kicked it off with a special French guest teaching us French greetings and how to make traditional crepes.
We have been busy getting ready for Canberra and are headed off Monday! We are all very excited.

Late arrivals /Early Departures
It is a Education Queensland requirement that any student arriving late to school or leaving early is signed in or out through the office. If your child is getting to class after 9am they must sign in through the office. If they are leaving before the bell at 2.45pm they must be signed out through the office. Teachers cannot sign students in or out.
If students are being collected early they must be signed out by a person listed as an emergency contact on their school profile unless the school has been notified in writing of a casual person who may be picking them up. This can be by email or text.
By prior arrangement students can be waiting in the office to be collected. Students are not permitted to wait at the butterfly to be collected early, we have a duty of care to primary school students to make sure they are collected by an authorised person.
If you have an appointment to get to please allow enough time to attend the office and sign students out.
We will do our best to make the process as quick as possible.
Thank you for your support with this very important safety policy.
