From the Desk of the Principal
Welcome to another fortnight at Montville State School where our students Care for Themselves, Others and The Environment. This week is Book Week where the theme is Read, Grow, Inspire. We have our costume parade on Friday and the students with the help of Mrs Kelly have made a display in our library -come on in and check it out!
I am really pleased to announce that following a selection process, I would like to warmly welcome Natalie Cronin as our new Business Manager replacing Melissa while she is away relieving at Baringa State School. Natalie works in Administration at Kawana State College and has nearly 20 years experience in various school admin roles in a variety of settings. Natalie has started here today and will have a handover with Miss Melissa to start the transition process.
Next Thursday we have a really busy day. Our Year 3-6 students will be heading to Landsborough for Small Schools Oztag. Our P-2 students will be staying back and celebrating a Donuts for Dads Day from 1:45-2:45pm in the hall. We hope that all of our dads can make it!
We are holding our parent teacher interviews on one evening from 1pm-7:30pm on Tuesday 12 September. Parents will be able to book in online from 28 August -8 September. This is a normal school day and the students will be participating in a MOTIV8 fun day from 11:30 -2:30 whilst the teachers will be holding their interviews. Students will be picked up at 2:45 as usual on this day.
We have a number of facilities upgrades next week. The timber ramp leading to the Prep/1 classrooms will be replaced and damaged sections of the spiderweb in the playground will be replaced as well. We will be sending out tender documents for the design and construction of our new play area next week. I am looking forward to sharing these design concepts with the school community in the near future.
You may also have noticed our chicken coop has had tidy up complete with a new automatic door. This has been to accomodate 4 new chickens that are now calling Montville State School home and are allready contributing eggs to go towards our kitchen education program.
You would have noticed our Year 6 students have started fundraising for their graduation and end of year excursion (Big Day Out). Last week they raised over $170 through the afternoon tea. This Friday they will be having a 2nd hand book stall where they will be selling their books and also busking for your entertainment. They would really appreciate your support with their fundraiseing endeavours. They have some other events planned so please keep an eye out.
Finally I would like to thank our P&C and all of the volunteers that come into the school to help each and every day.
Regards
Adam

Prep Update
The term is moving fast and we are all trying to keep up. Rhyming remains our priority and we are trying to rhyme with everything we see. Shapes are now the focus in maths and the students are good at seeing shapes in the most unusual places. Our seeds have grown and are ready for planting and we are all looking forward to dressing up for book week.
Thank you
Craig Caswell

Year 1 Update
The year 1 class have been busy working with 2D and3D shapes during maths. We have started a new book in English, ‘Tiddalick the Greedy Frog’. We have had a lot of fun making fat frogs, writing about the characters and understanding where the cultural story came from.
Best week we will be starting to make our sound instruments during Science lessons. If you have any small boxes, tins, cardboard cylinders or anything that might be used; please drip it off at the classroom.
Donuts for Dads Day is next Thursday. We are looking forward to sharing the afternoon with our dads, grand dads, uncles or special friends. Thursday, 1:45-2:45pm, on the oval.
Thank you
Miss Sheree

Year 2 Update
The Year Two students have been working hard on using all their skills to edit their own writing. I’m so impressed with their hard work and persistence while writing.
The science experiments involving sound are going well. Students have been starting to be able to explain and describe how and why different things can produce sound. They are working towards making a prediction, changing an element and explaining why the sound changed.
Miss Baker.

Fathers Day Celebration (Prep- Year 2)

Students from Years 3 to 6 will be representing Montville SS at Small Schools Oztag
Year 3/4 Update
This week the students in our class have been busy writing and editing stories on the laptops. They are busy copying and pasting text and photographs of handmade drawings into a PowerPoint to share with their class and a younger audience. They have shown great resilience and perseverance and I am very pleased at how well everyone is going.
We have also been busy building guinea-pig hutches for our mathematics assessment. A very hands on and practical week.
I am so glad and grateful that we have had the wonderful Teacher Aides, Miss Leeann, Miss Phoenix, Mrs Kelly and Mrs Barker to assist us with our learning and tasks this week. Thank you all!

Year 5/6 Update
The 5/6 class has been enjoying the gardening lessons with Miss Sophie. We are in the process of creating new compost piles and working on a plan to streamline our bins and procedures with waste around school. Every Thursday students will be collecting the shredded paper from the office and emptying the class green bins.
In other exciting news did you know our school is 49% green! Recently students from the 5/6 class entered the How Cool is your School competition with SheMaps and I am over the moon to announce that our very own Oliver O'Rourke won the Year 6 Judges Prize! This was an Australia wide competition and he is now the proud owner of a DJI Tello Edu Drone! Well done to all the students who entered.
See Oliver's winning entry in the photos.

Late arrivals /Early Departures
Late arrivals /Early Departures
It is a Education Queensland requirement that any student arriving late to school or leaving early is signed in or out through the office. If your child is getting to class after 9am they must sign in through the office. If they are leaving before the bell at 2.45pm they must be signed out through the office. Teachers cannot sign students in or out.
If students are being collected early they must be signed out by a person listed as an emergency contact on their school profile unless the school has been notified in writing of a casual person who may be picking them up. This can be by email or text.
By prior arrangement students can be waiting in the office to be collected. Students are not permitted to wait at the butterfly to be collected early, we have a duty of care to primary school students to make sure they are collected by an authorised person.
If you have an appointment to get to please allow enough time to attend the office and sign students out.
We will do our best to make the process as quick as possible.
Thank you for your support with this very important safety policy.
Montville Markets Update
Market Update - August 2023
We love family!
We were blessed to have an uncle, aunt, great-aunt and grandparents join our wonderful MSS volunteers and donors at this month’s market.
Our new school-made marmalade venture was a great success and Lulu’s chutney sold like hotcakes. Charles was Head of Accounting and used his Grandparent’s beautiful post-office scales to determine the weight, and therefore sale price of the marmalade and donated citrus. The profit from these will be reinvested in our Kitchen Garden program.
If you have surplus produce and a secret family jam or chutney recipe, Miss Mai and I would love to hear from you.
The next market will be on Saturday, 9th September - mark it in your calendars!
