Montville News Week 4 Term 2 2024 - Issue 20
From The Desk of the Principal
Welcome to another edition of our newsletter! We have had a busy start to Term 2 . With the 3-6 Camp and P-2 Bush Camp behind us I just want to say a sincere thank you to Emily and Sheree for all of their organisation and also to the other staff members involved for their (nearly) boundless energy over the 3 days to ensure the students were safe, supported and having a great time.
WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL DAY
Tomorrow we will be celebrating Walk Safely to School Day by having a walk with all members of the Montville State School Community invited to join in. We will be meeting at the Clock Shop on Main Street at 8:10 AM. Miss Sheree and other staff members will be there ready to head off at 8:30 and walk back to school. We hope to see everyone there!
THANK YOU TO MONTVILLE P&C!
In week 1 we held our first P&C meeting for the term. It was a very productive meeting that lasted just under an hour with 15 parents / caregivers in attendance. I am thrilled to say that during the meeting it was decided that the P&C would fund 3 Soundfield voice amplification systems to be used in the P/1, 2/3 and 4/5 classes. These systems cost approximately $2000 each and will greatly improve the teachers' ability to communicate clearly within the classrooms.
MALENY SHOW EXCURSION
This year we are returning to the Show! On Friday 31 May, we will all be travelling to the Maleny Show for a fun day. Our concert band will be performing on the day and students will be working on some Art Competition entries at school which will be on display at the show. I am very happy to offer this excursion free of charge. Parents are welcome to join in and assist and also collect their children at the showgrounds and remain there once we go back to school. It should be a great day!
Thanks
Adam
High School Transition Information
Chevallum Cluster High School Transition Session
Year 5 & 6 parents carers from across the Chevallum Cluster of School -Chevallum, Eudlo, Montville and Glenview State Schools, gathered in week 10, Term 1 to gather information on how they could support their students transitioning to high school.
Parents were able access information and resources as well accessing local high schools Deputies, HOD’s, HOSES and Junior Secondary teachers to support their students during this important transition phase.
Key message for transitioning parents is that “You make the biggest influence on your child’s success for high school transition”.
If you were not able to make this information and would access to the information packs or discuss your child’s transition to high school or navigating the transition process please contact Sandi Smith at ssmith725@eq.edu.au or 54532333.

Prep/1
The P/1’s have been working hard during maths investigating patterns, skip counting up to 100 and sorting objects using hands on materials. Everyone has been having a blast exploring living things and reporting on them during our English and science lessons. We have been looking at Great White Sharks, Kookaburras, Owls and other creatures. I am impressed on how much the kids have been taking in about these animals. Ask your child if they can share any facts from these animals from the text, we have been engaging in.
Our silkworms have finally hatched, we will enjoy seeing them grow over the next few weeks and seeing their life cycle.
The P/1/2 camp was a great success, everyone had a wonderful time; the kids were on their best behaviour and they have given some great suggestions for next years camp.

Year 2/3
In our vibrant Year 2/3 classroom, we have been engaging our young minds in exciting adventures both within the classroom and beyond. From exploring number sequences in mathematics to delving into the realms of informative texts, students have been encouraged to foster their curiosity through becoming fact hunters! Recent highlights have included a thrilling camp experience where our year 3 students bonded over varying activities and team challenges. Additionally, a memorable excursion to Australia Zoo sparked awe and wonder as our year 2 students encountered a variety of fascinating creatures, deepening their understanding of the natural world. These experiences not only enhance academic growth but also instil a sense of wonder and appreciation for the world around us.
Many Thanks, Mrs McKinnon
Year 3-6
The Year 3/4/5/6 students had a fantastic time exploring the sights of Brisbane City, meeting the Queensland Premier and our member Andrew Powell, completing challenging activities, swimming and of course hanging out in the cabins with friends.
We were very impressed with the way students conducted themselves at Parliament House, they all represented Montville, proudly. We were very lucky to see on the second night a range of talent as students took to the stage to entertain the crowd with singing, dancing, magic and skits.
Overall camp was a great success. Thank you to all those that joined in the fun!

National Simulataneous Storytime
National Simultaneous Storytime is an annual event held since 2000 by the Australian Library and Information Association. Every year a picture book, by an Australian children's author and illustrator is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes and bookshops around Australia, as part of Australia's Library and Information Week.
2024 - "Bowerbird Blues" stars a beautiful bowerbird on the search for (you guessed it) BLUE! It’s a moving story of longing and connection, that unfolds as the bowerbird’s search sends him soaring across the sea, sky and city. He swoops and snatches vibrant treasures for his collection, and soon his bower – a mix of natural and unnatural objects – attracts something greater and more fulfilling than he could ever have imagined.

みなさん、こんにちは!
Celebration of the seasons is an important part of Japanese culture, each season in Japan being very distinct and with something special to celebrate. During Spring in Japan, from late March to mid May, the wonderful さくらappear, covering trees in a blanket of light pink blossoms. Montville students in P-4 learnt about the importance of さくらto Japanese people and the はなみ celebrations that take place while they are in bloom. Students created their own さくら branches, taking pride in their artwork.
Year 5 and 6 students recently studied a unit ‘Let’s eat’ in Japanese. As well as learning to talk about the foods they like and dislike, as well as what they eat and drink at meal times, students learnt about some popular foods in Japan. As part of the unit, Year 5s and 6s made おにぎり, Japanese rice balls. The students enjoyed making and eating these, with many proclaiming that they were ‘おいしい’.
Finally Prep and Year 1 students have been learning and reviewing their numbers in Japanese this term. Students used playdough to make the kanji for the Japanese numbers.
よくできました、Montville students!

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden
We prepared cuttings of plants at the end of last year and repotted them to sell at this year's mother's day stall :)
Year 5/6 helped with the labels. We also did lots of weeding and moving mulch.
We have had lots of rain. We were able to observe some erosion happening.
This was down the narrow slope path. To slow down the water created some berms to redirect water into the flat paths in between beds. We are working on a bigger design for the whole garden.
Year Prep/1 made flower jar arrangements for mother's day
We also took cuttings of rosemary and lavender and dipped them in honey. This will help them to grow roots. We poked them into potting mix and are keeping them moist. We hope some will grow into new plants!
We also planted 100 seedlings that were kindly donated from some farmers up north - we look forward to harvesting soon!
