Community Announcement
From The Desk of the Principal
Welcome to another edition of our newsletter. It has been great to see the end of the rain and seeing some real progress on our new outdoor learning and play area. This week we opened the reading pod area and the students have loved being able to eat their lunch or just sit and chat in this amazing space. The students and staff can not wait for it to be completed and are looking forward to inviting all of the community to come along to the grand opening celebrations in September.
Last week, all of our students went to the Maleny Show where we enjoyed being a part of the fun and even managed to take home a number of prizes for our Kitchen garden produce and student art. We even won the trophy for “Overall Exhibitor of the Show”! I was very proud of the behaviour of all our students during the day and am very pleased to say our Concert Band, led by Mr Hill performed incredibly.
We have a busy end to the term coming up. We will be holding our Athletics Carnival on Monday 10 June and our 3-6 students will be heading to Kenilworth to participate in the Small Schools Soccer Carnival against our neighbouring schools which will be a lot of fun.
We are now taking enrolments for 2025 and will be holding an Open Morning for anyone that is new to the school to have a look around. The Open Morning will be held on Friday July 26 from 9:00-10:00 am. If you are looking to enrol your child for 2025 please contact us on 54521333.
Finally I just want to remind parents to please ensure their children are coming to school wearing their school uniform including a school hat and a school jumper as well as long pants or leggings that are either black or bottle green. I am very happy to cover the cost of these items if required. Please let me know if you need any help. Thank you all for your support.
Thanks
Adam

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD)
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
- year of schooling
- category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
- level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.
This information assists schools to:
- formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
- consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
- develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).
Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).
If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school.
Prep/1
Term two is almost done and dusted. The kids have been working extremely hard with all their classroom learning.
Our English unit has been a hit with everyone, it is always a struggle to get the kids to pack up and move on. We can't wait to see their final work.
During Math, the kids have been enjoying their learning using hands on materials and real-life experiences.
Maleny Show excursion was a great day out! We were very proud of our student's behaviour, and they managed to last the day of walking and exploring.
Miss Sheree and Mr Jake
Year 2/3
We have had lots of adventures in our bustling 2/3 classroom!
Over the past few weeks, our students have delved into a myriad of texts, from informational books to digital resources. There has been great excitement to uncover facts, decipher meanings, and develop a deeper understanding of various topics. Together we have learnt so much about pandas, elf owls, box jellyfish, horses, rabbits and many more animals!
Through interactive games, hands-on activities, and creative exercises, we have been learning about digital and analogue time. From understanding the concepts of hours, minutes, and seconds, to mastering the art of reading both digital clocks and traditional analogue clocks, we are understanding why it is important to be able to tell the time accurately.
We participated in the National Simultaneous Storytime and completed some lovely artwork which we entered into the Maleny Show. Speaking of the Maleny Show, what a great day we all enjoyed on Friday! We were fortunate to experience a beautiful, autumn day to wander and view the many exhibits and events.
Our 2/3 class is very excited to be hosting our Celebration of Learning afternoon, Tuesday 18th June, 2:25 – 2:45pm. We warmly invite parents, grandparents and family members to our classroom and share in celebrating some of our achievements this term.
Many Thanks, Mrs McKinnon
Year 3/4
Year 3/4 class have been working with Miss Sophie in the garden planting and potting seeds and watching them turn into our own seedlings. We have been looking at plant and animal lifecycles and writing and following along with the seeds journey. The students got to see some of the produce from our school win first prize at the Maleny Show. Three students from our class won some art prizes too! We had a fantastic day at the show and were so lucky with beautiful sunshine all day (until the last moment when the sky opened up and we ran for cover of the busses!)
I’m so proud of all the hard work these 3/4 students have put in this term in every aspect. They have learned so much especially when it came to researching, collecting information and presenting this information in many different informative text formats.
Miss Baker
Yr 5/6
The 5/6 class has been super busy! We loved our day out at the Maleny Show, we were very excited to see some of us had even won prizes for our art. In HASS we have been transported back in time to a number of significant events and everyone did an outstanding job explaining why their time period was significant. We have been spending lots of time with our buddies, last week we did some tricky challenges with them and practiced relay races.

Community Announcement
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will shortly be undertaking bridge maintenance works at Paynter Creek, Palmwoods, on the Woombye—Montville Road, known locally as the Palmwoods—Montville Road.
Works are scheduled to begin in mid to late June 2024, weather and construction conditions permitting, and expected to take up to six weeks to complete.
The majority of the works will take place during the day, but night works will start in July, and weekend work may be necessary.
Closure of the bridge will be required for up to five days, requiring a detour.
This will happen in the second week of the works, during school holidays. A detour route via local roads will be signed and managed by traffic control. Variable Message Signs will be in place to notify motorists of the changed conditions.
Please see the attached flyer for further information.
Works will include:
- replacing deteriorated timber structural components
- installation of steel piles at abutments, including concreting
- resurfacing and line marking works.
TMR's contractor will endeavour to keep disruptions and noise to a minimum while the works are undertaken. TMR understands roadworks can be frustrating for nearby residents and road users and acknowledges the cooperation and patience of stakeholders during construction.
If you require additional information regarding the works, please contact TMR's project team on 5451 7055 or email northcoast@tmr.qld.gov.au.
