Montville News - Week 8 Term 3 2024 - Issue 23
From The Desk of the Principal
Welcome to another edition of the Montville State School newsletter. Term 3 has been flying by and all of our students are busy finishing off their work and Caring for Themselves, Others and the Environment.
Staffing
As you are aware, we have had several staff away with illnesses as well as planned surgeries. We are all thinking of Miss Sheree who is recovering in hospital following another surgery as well as Miss Baker who is undergoing surgery today. We wish both of these incredible staff a speedy recovery and we can not wait to have them both back at school. Miss Sheree will be taking the remainder of the 2024 school year off and Cristi Lancaster will teach the P/1 class throughout this time. And Mrs Suzanne Poingdestre will replace Miss Baker in the 3/4 class until the end of this term.
Playground
Our playground and outdoor learning area renovation is nearing completion and will be open ready for the students on the first day of Term 4. Progress really has sped up and I am looking forward to opening up the playground on Monday 30 September which is the first day of Term 4. All of our students spent some time today planting around our new reading pods and amphitheatre. We had 50 plants donated by the Sunshine Coast Council and the rest were donated by Erric and Diana who also helped prepare the area and plant them today. I really want to thank Eric and Diana for all of their support to make our outdoor areas beautiful.
Prep Open Day
We are holding our final Open Morning on Friday 18 October for any families interested in taking a tour of our school. If you know of any families that this may apply to , please get them to contact Alice in the office on 54521333.
Canberra Camp
Unfortunately, we only had 11 students interested in attending our Canberra Camp in 2025 so we have decided to cancel. Another expression of interest will be sent out next year for a 2026 trip.
Swimming and Surf Skills
Next term, all of our students will be participating in swimming lessons at Palmwoods Pool and our 5/6 students will also take part in Surf Skills lessons at Alexander Headlands. We will be sending notes home soon about both of these great opportunities.

Parent/ Teacher Interviews
Parent-Teacher interviews will be offered in Week 9 of school this term on Tuesday 3rd September 2024.
Please utilise the link https://montvillestates.schoolzineplus.com/view-session/6 to select a timeslot which best suits your family’s needs. The interview timeslots are 15 minutes each, so please be on time and observe the allocated time as there will be other parents and carers scheduled before and after your visit.
Bookings for this interview session will close by 7pm tonight to enable adequate preparation time for the teachers.
I encourage all parents and carers to take advantage of this opportunity to discuss your child’s learning development and social-emotional growth.

Prep/1
It’s hard to believe we are already well into Week 8! Our super clever Prep/One students are ready to show what they know by demonstrating the knowledge they’ve gained over the term as we begin to assess learning.
We are excited to have Mr Jake back on board and extremely grateful to Miss Phoenix and our other fabulous teacher aides who worked with us during his absence. Our buddies have been doing a great job helping us prepare for our oral presentations, whilst our parents have been a great help in assisting us with literacy activities and our ‘push/pull’ toy making.
Our little masterminds have been showcasing their bravery, confidence and an outstanding commitment to improving their oral presentation skills during their Show and Tell and English lessons.
Parents, please continue to help remind your child to bring their item on their set day and don’t forget, this is just a bit of fun and gives them the opportunity to practice for their upcoming English oral task.
We wish all of our amazing Prep/1 Dad’s a very happy Father’s Day!
Mrs Poingdestre, Mrs Lancaster and Mr Jake

Year 2/3
We had such a fun day on Friday celebrating Book Week. Luckily, as it was our borrowing day, we were able to enjoy reading in the magical transformation of the library by Ms Kelly. We also completed some magic themed craft and even managed to fit in a STEM activity.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be busy designers, creating our toys and games for our Science assessment.
Our Year 2’s have been having fun in Maths using informal units for measuring while our Year 3’s have been working on accuracy in measurement using formal units.
Please remember Tuesday, 10th September, 2:15 – 2:45pm, to join us for our Term 3, Celebration of Learning in our classroom. We look forward to you all joining us.
Many Thanks,
Many Thanks, Mrs McKinnon
Year 3/4
After a few big weeks the year 3/4 class got to enjoy a fun Book Week celebration day and a trip to SeaLife Mooloolaba.
The students have worked hard this term and I was thrilled they could enjoy a beautiful warm day of learning and exploring the exhibits of penguins, sharks, seals and other sea life.
I know I learnt a lot!
Thank you to the parent volunteers who joined us. We appreciated your help.
I want to thank everyone for a fantastic Term 3 and wish the kids and Mrs Poindestre a wonderful end to the term.
I will see everyone after I have started my recovery again in Term 4.
